NYC….here I come! day 1 of my Fashion Week experience |
4:30am
I leap out of bed and start scrambling…of course my bags are not packed yet and my flight leaves at 9. Someday I’m actually going to catch up with myself!!! Ten minutes of yoga and I’m ready to roll!
6:37am
Traffic. This early on a Thursday morning on the downtown connector. Thank god I work from home, I would be a road rage bitch or asleep at the wheel if I had to deal with this on a daily basis.
Ugh!!! Too many people doing the one thing I hate witnessing the most - picking their nose! Do they not realize that the “I’m invisible” shield did NOT come as an option with their car…leave the little slimmer in there and wait until you are in the privacy of your office!!!
7:30am
Bloody Mary - a double - now I’m ready to go!
11:12am
My first glimpse of the city. Almost better than a prelude to a kiss (almost). This is the one city that gives me an adrenalin rush that never dies down the entire time I’m here. Like, OMG, I love this place.
12:30pm
Yes. Nice hotel on Central Park South - Christine and I have been FREAKING out trying to find a hotel for the past couple of days. Like complete dorks we didn’t think booking a hotel in this city would be a problem…and it’s not if you want to drop $600 on a room the size of my bathroom. The girl pulled it off though! And right across the street from one of my favorite parks - used to hang out in this park every spare moment when I lived here years ago.
1:30pm
Music. People everywhere. The streets are blocked off. What the hell?!? An hour ago the street in front of our hotel was nothing like this. Oh. Duh. Football. Someday I’m going to quit working all the time and get back to life again. It’s the NFL kick-off a block away from our hotel in Columbus Circle. Keith Urban & Usher are performing in an hour….hmmm, crowds and music or food…call me crazy but I’m going with food - I’m freaking starving.
Lunch with my girlfriend Christine, imagine Penelope Cruz with an Egyptian twist - absolutely stunning! Thankfully neither one of us are shy or bashful, we were doing a fabulous job of turning heads as we walked up the street. Two chicks with a lot of sass…we’re going to tear up this town!
7:30ish
Oh hell, late again. I’m rushing to the Meat Packing District, can’t remember the name of the street that the gallery is on and can’t track down anyone who does - my life definitely feels like a TV show today! But in five minutes I will have a drink in hand, be ohhing and ahhhing over beautiful art and hanging with my buddy Bill, my favorite director in the world. Met him when someone suggested (at the beginning of this roller coaster ride called Playing the Field) that I take acting lessons. The end of the first meeting rolled around and he looked at me and said, “Honey, you already have all of this figured out. What we have here is a beautiful friendship.” And so it has been ever since. We both love the arts, life, work and beautiful men -amen!
minutes later…

Beautiful art. Beautiful friends. The beginning of a great evening!
an hour later…
The Plunge Bar - rooftop balcony - great view of the city, great view of the pool at SoHo House - and FABULOUS view of great looking men!
Hanging out on one of the benches chatting it up with Bill and Christine when suddenly I hear someone say my name… Denning. My fave guy in the world, giving me with this completely astonished look and a huge smile. I think I could possibly be one of the few girls on this planet who can go to a completely different city (remember I’m a Hotlanta girl) and run into one of my best friends…completely unplanned. Love, love, love my life!

Just write like you’re talking to your friends. And soon, they will be.
