About Amanda
Being the independent, headstrong type of woman that I am, I have driven my share of guys crazy with my “Work Hard, Play Hard” attitude. I’ve danced through life having great friends around me. It is my softer side and the long conversations about love and passion that are the premise for the important parts of life…and this blog. You’ll relate to my life, see how it sometimes mirrors a TV sitcom and may even think to yourself “damn, been there, done that!”
How did I get here?
I’m a lucky girl… think that just runs in my blood. I had the best of both worlds growing up. My dad had the most beautiful horse farm where I learned a lot about hard work (whew!). The man gave me a strong sense of work ethic - mucking stalls and helping with managing a farm isn’t exactly the typical teenager’s day. But I also got to experience the opposite side of the coin when I would visit with my mom in Virginia Highlands, which was then Atlanta’s hippie neighborhood. Growing up around the folks I did gave me a wonderful sense for people and taught me a lot about how people think, feel and respond.
From my sojourn to Manhattan to my trips to Europe, I’ve walked away each time with another fabulous story and more friends that help me experience so many sides of life. Over the past two decades, I’ve carved a niche with a multitude of strengths related to Design, Psychology, Marketing, Public Relations and Self Growth while experiencing life from wildly differing perspectives. After figuring out how to gather my variety of skills into one tremendous package, I began a wild and exhilarating journey filled with serendipitous moments. Each piece has built upon the next and provided me with a fun, solid basis for life, to the point that I have now reached…the “wooohooo, my life and job are so right! …and so me!”
The fun that I stir up!
One of my best friends calls me “Atlanta’s version of Carrie from Sex in the City” there are some similarities, and boy, do I have some funny stories to tell! From sporting a leather bikini in a fashion show (yes, very Carrie, and no, I did not trip and fall!), to hanging out with the stars at Emmy parties, to sitting front row at fashion shows during Fashion Week in NYC, to interviewing the sexiest of race car drivers at the Petite LeMans…the stories are endless! But as I always say once I have recovered and have life in me again…”It’s a tough life, but somebody’s gotta to live it!”
I’ve had a tremendous amount of fun with my Television, Print and Radio appearances – give me a camera, a microphone and someone to interview me and I can’t shut up! So far I’ve been on DailyCandy.com, Cosmopolitan Magazine, CNN, the Today Show (okay, so I was mixed in with the crowd when I was talking to them but it still counts!) and tons of others.
You would have laughed at me during my near fainting spells and “Miss America” pageant moments….it’s not that often that you get the call from Cosmo, MTV or wildly famous celebrities! Then there was also the day that I found out that I had received multiple awards including the Award of Excellence for the game that I invented, Playing the Field – that topped the charts!
What Does all of This Have to do with Dating?
I’ve found that success in any area of life is based on good communication. As the sheriff told Paul Newman’s in Cool Hand Luke, “what we have here is a failure to communicate.” From personal experience and living through a few relationships that did not (live that is) I have to agree with him. Communication is a pretty simple concept—or so you would think!
I’ve got your back!
For those of you who have a great circle of friends you will understand that every so often you need some back up and support, someone to bounce ideas off of and the occasional deep thinking, wine drinking evening. I’m lucky to have a huge collection of friends, girls and guys, from every walk of life and in every type of relationship who love to talk over the topics that most won’t even mumble.
While there are times when you think you are totally alone or the only one who has done something stupid…believe me, that’s not the case! We all grow and learn through the mishaps that occur in our lives. Just as long as you walk away from the experience knowing and learning more – it’s all common sense.
